Aloha E Komo Mai - (Welcome) to New Hope Outrigger Canoe Club Ministry Team Atlantic. This is the sister club to New Hope Oahu (Hawai'i) Church's canoe ministry that was founded in 2000. These traditional Hawaiian Canoe Clubs have been structured as faith based canoe clubs but you need not be Christian to join. It is a no pressure environment, and if you are Christian there will be ministry time in and out of the canoe. 

We believe the way Hawai'ian Elders perceived of "Aloha" is how we should live life in and out of the canoe. Consider the essence of the word by its components:

"Akahai" - kindness

"Lokahi" - unity

"Olu'olu" - to be agreeable

"Ha'aha'a" - humility

"Ahonui" - patience

Coach's note:

My name is David Schofield,  Thats my mom and niece in the picture. I moved to Lewes, DE in November 2021, after living in Hawaii for 16 years. I retired from NOAA working in conservation care of marine life. I had a dream job but now am off to new adventures (life is precious  and short). While in Hawaii, I fell in love with the sport of Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddling and feel it is a great way to bring people together for fun, fellowship and in some cases a little bit of healthy competition or just to get a consistent work out on the water. Please check us out for paddling locations and on water session times.

 
It does not matter if you paddle recreationally or competitively, 
there is a "seat for you in the canoe."

Paddling sites are still being established in the Lewes/Rehoboth (DE) area -stay tuned for location information. Practices will occur morning, afternoon and early evening seasonally from April -October. You do not need experience but should be in some form of fitness to be able to get in and out of the canoe and you should be able to swim in the unlikely event that the canoe hulis (flips).
